NASHVILLE, Tenn., January 24, 2011
– Linda L. Biek, CPA – Director, Governmental and International Relationships for the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) was recently named a recipient of the 2011 Women of Influence Awards, sponsored by the Nashville Business Journal.

Biek is among the recipients selected in the Award’s Behind the Scenes category. She, alongside 31 other Women of Influence winners, will be featured in a special award publication and honored during a recognition luncheon.

Regarded as an influential leader within the accounting and regulatory profession, Biek’s contributions have been instrumental in expanding NASBA’s footprint, both domestically and internationally. Most recently, she was the driving force in establishing NASBA’s International Forum. In its third year, the Forum is a unique roundtable devoted to the exchange of issues and ideas related to the global impact of international accounting and auditing regulation.

As former Executive Director of the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy, Biek has had more than 15 years of experience in accounting regulation. She began her career with international firm KPMG and also gained valuable industry experience as a senior internal auditor for Brinks International, a Fortune 500 company. Biek is licensed as a CPA in Tennessee and is an active member of the AICPA and the Tennessee Society of CPAs, serving on various committees.

Biek earned her Masters of Accountancy degree and BBA in marketing from East Tennessee State University. She has been honored by former Tennessee Governor Don Sunquist, as well as her alma mater for her professional accomplishments. Additionally, she was selected for the Tennessee Government Management Institute, an executive training program, and has used her training to collaborate with professionals throughout Europe and Asia.

As a passionate community leader, Biek has served on the boards of various non-profit agencies in the Nashville area. Currently, she serves as Board Chair of Monroe Harding, Inc. and was formerly involved with the Junior League of Nashville as Vice President of Development; Vice President of Marketing; and co-chair of the 2006 Decorators Show House.

“I’ve been surrounded by strong role models who lead by example – especially my husband Mike. I’m hopeful that I can share the lessons that I’ve learned with other women to help them realize that they are smart, talented and beautiful! We need to be dedicated to supporting each other,” said Biek.

Biek and her husband are the proud parents of two children Thomas (11) and Elizabeth (9).
