NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 19, 2011 — During a ceremony on Friday, April 15, senior executives of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) and members of the SpeakUp NASBA Toastmasters club were presented with the Toastmasters Corporate Recognition Award. With more than 260,000 members across the globe, Toastmasters is a non-profit organization that helps individuals improve their communication and leadership skills.

The Corporate Recognition Award, presented twice a year, recognizes organizations that have displayed significant support for the Toastmasters program. NASBA was selected from over 12,500 chapters vying for the coveted award.

Charlie Rosenquist, Toastmasters District 63 Governor and Ron Kirchgessner, Toastmasters International Director, facilitated the awards ceremony. Accepting the award on behalf of NASBA were Ken L. Bishop, Executive Vice President and COO, Michael Bryant, Chief Financial Officer and Alfonzo Alexander, Chief Relationship Officer. Comments were also shared by NASBA President and CEO, David Costello, and SpeakUp NASBA President, Leona Johnson.

“Toastmasters is the best benefit NASBA has to offer its employees, shared Costello via video feed. It’s the gift that keeps on giving as it equips our employees with confidence, enthusiasm, great pride and a great sense of accomplishment. I love Toastmasters because it incentivizes and motivates people. NASBA and the members of SpeakUp NASBA are honored to receive the Corporate Recognition Award.”

Chartered in 2006, SpeakUp NASBA is comprised of 54 members and meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at NASBA’s downtown Nashville headquarters. Recently, club members Jared Throneberry and Tim Wright placed 3rd place and 2nd place, respectively, in the Toastmasters Area 50 Speech and Table Topics Contest. Throneberry delivered a heartfelt and inspiring “Mercy” speech while Wright took fellow Toastmasters back to his childhood in response to the, “If only I were 12 years old again, I would…” table topic.

The club also received Toastmasters’ first 5 Star Club Award, the Publicity Award and the Golden Goose Egg Award during the District 63 Spring Conference held on April 16 in Manchester, TN.
