November 2012

The 38 states live on the ALD comprise approximately 75% of all regulated CPAs, leaving only about 25% of regulated CPAs left to add to the national database. On CPAverify, the 33 live states make up about 72% of the regulated CPA population. The estimated national total of “Persons Regulated” is approximately 771,000, based on “State Board Profiles – June 2012,” a compilation of state board profile information provided to NASBA by the individual state boards. The states on ALD represent about 580,600 of those licensees while the states on CPAverify represent 559,500.

We continue to make great strides with the ALD, thanks to the commitment of state boards across the country. We have recently received commitments from Massachusetts and Michigan to participate in both systems. Maine and Mississippi recently went live on the ALD, making them the 37th and 38th states in the database, respectively. Guam and Vermont are busy finalizing their implementations. Implementation is well underway with Arizona, DC, and Massachusetts as well.

Idaho is the most recent addition to CPAverify, going live with Maine, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi since the last edition of this newsletter on August 1, 2012. Vermont and Guam are expected to follow soon. In addition to beginning implementations from scratch, we’ve also been helping New Mexico and Montana re-establish their feeds to the ALD after licensing platform overhauls. Once completed, New Mexico’s ALD data will also roll to CPAverify, potentially making it the 35th state on the public site. We’ll be working with Indiana shortly as well to re-establish their feed. Thank you all for your commitment to this project!

Lastly, on top of helping states add their data to the database, we’ve been hard at work enhancing the data we already have. We have identified the “ALD Big Four” as the top four data components we hope to get from all participating state boards. The Big Four are (1) hashing, (2) linking, (3) disciplinary data, and (4) firm data. We have covered the benefits of including these pieces in one of our News and Announcements articles, called “The ALD Big Four.” To view that article, please click here.
